Song Analysis 2.

In “E.T.,” Katy Perry uses second person point of view, and metaphor to show the way she feels about a unique person and their affect on her is so unnatural that it possibly can’t be human. Throughout the song Perry goes on to explain how this one person makes her feel so important and good about herself that it’s not something you see all the time. This type of love isn’t something that everyone gets to experience within their lifetime.
Second person point of view is used many times throughout this song. For example, “You’re so hypnotizing could you be the devil could you be an angel,” the use of second person helps explain how she’s talking about one person in particular. Also when she talks about how she basically needs their love, “Infect me with your love and fill me with your poison,” she wants to be filled with theirs and only their love and poison, but it’s not poison it’s the poison of his ways on her. Another example of second person point of view is, “For you I’ll risk it all, all,” shows how she’ll risk everything she has for this one person because she loves him.
Katy Perry also uses metaphors as a way to convey her feelings. “Boy, you’re an alien your touch are foreign.” The man she’s talking about clearly isn’t an alien it’s just her way of expressing that is love is unreal. “Your so supersonic wanna feel your powers stun me with your lasers.” The person doesn’t have powers or lasers but he does have “powers” on her because it’s his way on her that she can’t control. Metaphors show a different view of the song because it conveys a different tone of meaning throughout the song.
Katy Perry uses second person point of view and metaphors throughout her song, “E.T.” to convey her thoughts of her love. She used a very deep thinking to write this song. Second person point of view was a good choice because it effects the song in a good way. Also, the song uses metaphors to show the detailed meanings throughout the song. Katy Perry is a very gifted artist and she is one of my very favorite song writers and singers.
