Top 50 Songs of 2010

The three songs that I chose off of the Rolling Stones Top 50 songs from 2010 are “Not Afraid,” by Eminem, “Teenage Dream,” by Katy Perry and “We R Who We R,” by Ke$ha. These songs are all very different and that’s what I liked about them. They each convey a different meaning behind each of the stories or examples they are telling.

In the first song “Not Afraid,” by Eminem is about how he is getting over the struggle of abusing drugs and alcohol. Eminem talks about how he isn’t afraid to stand out and be above his old ways, and how he knows he can get the strength to be healthy again. Throughout this song he uses a lot of rhyme. For example, “I'm not afraid to take a stand everybody come take my hand well walk this road together, through the storm whatever weather cold or warm,” this is a hook he uses throughout the song saying if someone has a problem they don’t need to be alone. Another example is “I’m manning up, Imma hold my ground I've had enough, now I'm so fed up timeto put my life back together right now.” He uses rhyme to show how he is fed up with his old life style and he’s ready to start a new chapter in his life.

In the second song I chose, “Teenage Dream,” by Katy Perry is about hoe the man in her life makes her feel so in love like teenagers. It’s inspired by how young love is so exciting and new and how he makes her feel like that again. She uses a lot of exaggeration throughout the song, “We can dance until we die You and I We'll be young forever.” they’re not literally going to dance until they die but she’s saying she feels like she can have a great time forever and that she’s so young that they’ll be like that forever. Also, she says, “My heart stops When you look at me.” her heart doesn’t literally stop but she says him looking at her makes her stop because she loves it so much.

The last song “We R Who We R,” by Ke$ha is how she just wants to have a good time with all her friends and no one can stop them. She uses repetition, “ Tonight we’re going hard Just like the world is ours We’re tearin’ it apart You know we’re superstars We are who we are!” this is apart of the chorus that she repeats through the entire song many times. It emphasizes the way she feels about them having a great time together and partying without any care. She also uses exaggeration “We’re dancing like we’re dumb
Our bodies go numb We’ll be forever young,” they’re dancing like they’re dumb but they’re just acting crazy that they can’t feel anything anymore.
